PlasmaGuard

Plasmalex offers PlasmaGuard, a groundbreaking PECVD barrier conformal coating. This innovative product was the result of years of dedicated research and development.

PlasmaGuard sets a new standard in environmental responsibility by being not only PFOA and PFOS free but also entirely free from fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and other PFASs.

100% PFAS-Free PECVD Barrier Conformal Coating

PlasmaGuard coatings are available in two variants, designed to cater to a range of application requirements. PlasmaGuard S and PlasmaGuard E.

PlasmaGuard S

PlasmaGuard S is a completely PFAS-free nanocoating, typically applied at a thickness of 100 to 200 nanometers. With a water contact angle  of more than 120° it effectively minimizes water ingress.

This coating is versatile; suitable for application on a wide array of materials such as electronics, plastics, textiles, and medical devices.

PlasmaGuard S properties:

  • IZ-Axis Conductive: PlasmaGuard S ensures effective conductivity along the Z-axis, enhancing its versatility for various applications.
  • Excellent Membrande Breathability: Offers outstanding membrane breathability with a Ret value of 0.9 according to ISO11092.
  • No Acoustic Impact:  Has no audible impact on acoustics, making it suitable for applications where sound quality is crucial.
  • Abrasion Resistance: Demonstrates high resistance to abrasion, ensuring long-lasting durability.

Environmental Rensponsiblity:

REACH Compliant for SVHCs: PlasmaGuard S meets the requirements set forth by the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) for Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs).

RoHS and WEEE Compliant: Adheres to the European Union’s RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) compliance standards.

Biocompatible: Compliant with ISO 10993-5, making it suitable for medical devices and other biocompatible applications.

Not Hypersensitive: Adheres to ISO 10993-10 standards, ensuring compatibility with sensitive applications.

PlasmaGuard E

PlasmaGuard E is a fully PFAS free dielectric barrier coating for Printed Circuit Boards (PCB).

It is typically applied at 1 micron and at that thickness outperforms conformal coatings  many times thicker.

PlasmaGuard E properties:

  • Excellent dielectric properties
  • Highly hydrophobic (Water contact angle 120°+)
  • Unparalleled chemical and moisture barrier properties
  • Ultra-thin, truly conformal coating
  • Pinhole-free

Environmental Rensponsiblity:

REACH and RoHS Compliant: PlasmaGuard E complies with RoHS and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) directives.

Free of VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds), lead, other metals, and crucially, any PFAS content.

Biocompatible: Compliant with ISO 10993-5, making it suitable for medical devices and other biocompatible applications.

The elimination of PFASs, including fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), astatine (At), and tennessine (Ts), aligns with the global initiative to reduce hazardous chemicals in electronics.

Not Hypersensitive: Adheres to ISO 10993-10 standards, ensuring compatibility with sensitive applications.

Superior barrier coating strength:

In addition to its remarkable PFAS-free composition, PlasmaGuard E stands out as a superior barrier coating. It outperforms not only other nanocoating barriers available in the market but also surpasses traditional conformal coating options such as acrylic, epoxy, silicone, and even parylene. This remarkable strength ensures unparalleled protection for a wide range of applications.

Testing Methodology:

A short cut test was conducted by submerging a SIR board with an ENIG surface finish and applying 5V once submerged. The current that flows from the legs of one fork to the legs of the other fork is then measured. A current of 0.1 mA is considered the point of short circuiting and failure.

Results:

At the same thickness, PlasmaGuard E outperformed Parylene in every type of liquid.

Even when Parylene was applied at 5 times the thickness, PlasmaGuard E continued to outperform it.

This groundbreaking testing demonstrates that PlasmaGuard E not only meets but exceeds industry expectations for barrier strength, making it an ideal choice for applications where superior protection is paramount.

Cost-effective solution:

PlasmaGuard E is not only environmentally friendly but also a cost-effective solution, providing our clients with a sustainable option without compromising performance or budget.
